The Battle of Algiers (1966), directed by Gillo Pontecorvo, is a gripping, documentary-style portrayal of Algeria’s fight for independence from French colonial rule. Focusing on the 1950s urban guerrilla warfare in Algiers, it captures the brutal tactics and human cost on both sides, offering a stark, realistic depiction of colonial resistance.

The screening will include a discussion with guest speakers:

- Mohammed Amine Ben Loulou, Algerian film director and cultural activist (virtually from Algiers)

- Ryan Mahan, from the band Algiers (virtually from Atlanta)

- Fayez Khozindar, cast member from the film (live in Chicago)
